# Stream (/docs/orders/pos/stream/)

> Send phone orders through Stream to your POS and kitchen.

Virnika connects to **Stream** (StreamOrders), which links ordering channels to your POS. Phone orders go to Stream, and Stream sends them on to your POS and kitchen. Your menu, prices, item availability and pause status stay in sync automatically.

Your Virnika onboarding specialist sets up the connection with you. The connection itself is started from Stream, and our team can complete it on your behalf.

## Before you start

- A Stream account for your location, connected to your POS.
- A Virnika location set up for Stream. Your onboarding specialist does this for you.

## Setup

### Step 1: We set up your location for Stream

We create your location in Virnika and set it to use Stream. Only locations set up this way can be linked from Stream.

### Step 2: Connect Virnika from Stream

The connection starts from Stream. You'll be asked to sign in with your Virnika account, then choose which Virnika location to link to your Stream location. Your onboarding specialist can do this step for you.

### Step 3: Publish your menu to Virnika

Publish your menu from Stream. We import it as soon as Stream sends it.

### Step 4: Choose how callers pay

Callers can pay over the phone or pay at pickup.

- **Pay over the phone**: the order arrives in Stream as paid.
- **Pay at pickup**: the order arrives marked unpaid, with `** PAY IN STORE **` in the order notes.

### Step 5: Check your menu and place a test order

We go over the imported menu with you, including items, modifiers, prices and hours. Then we place a test order to make sure it reaches your POS and kitchen the way you expect. After that, you're ready to go live.

## What syncs from Stream

- **Menu**: every menu you publish, with categories, items, sizes and other variations, modifier groups and prices, including modifiers nested inside other modifiers. Each variation shows up as its own item, such as "Pizza - Large".
- **Hours**: menu availability comes from each menu's schedule in Stream.
- **Tax**: uses the tax rates on your Stream menu.
- **Prep time**: we use the prep time from your Stream menu for pickup time quotes.
- **Out-of-stock items**: when you 86 an item, variation or modifier in Stream, Virnika stops offering it right away.
- **Pausing**: when you pause your location in Stream, Virnika tells callers ordering is paused. When you resume, Virnika starts taking orders again.
- **Order updates**: Stream sends us status updates such as accepted, ready, failed or canceled.

> **Note**
>
> Make menu changes in Stream, not in Virnika. Publish the menu again and the changes show up right away. Out-of-stock changes show up right away too.

## How orders arrive

- Orders are sent as **pickup**, **curbside** or **delivery** orders, with the caller's name and phone number. Delivery orders include the address and are sent as delivery handled by your restaurant.
- Each order's notes start with `PHONE ORDER`. Pay-at-pickup orders also say `** PAY IN STORE **`. Curbside orders include the caller's vehicle description.
- Each ticket shows a short order ID made from the caller's first name and a few characters. It's the same ID the caller hears, so staff can match pickups.
- Orders can be placed for as soon as possible or for a later time.
- Tax, service charges, delivery fees and discounts are sent with the order.
- Tips are sent as a store tip on pickup orders and as a driver tip on delivery orders.
- If your POS rejects an order while the caller is still on the phone, Virnika apologizes and offers to transfer them to the restaurant.

## Limitations

- Orders can't be edited or canceled from Virnika once they reach Stream. Make changes in Stream or on your POS.
- Delivery orders are for your own drivers. Virnika doesn't book a delivery courier through Stream.

## Troubleshooting

#### My Virnika location doesn't show up when connecting from Stream

Only locations set up for Stream in Virnika appear, and only for the Virnika account that owns them. Ask your onboarding specialist to check your location, or to complete the connection for you.
#### A menu change isn't showing up

Menu changes reach Virnika when you publish your menu from Stream. Publish it again. If it still doesn't show up, contact [help@virnika.ai](mailto:help@virnika.ai).
#### Orders are being rejected by the POS

This usually means an item or modifier on the order doesn't match what your POS expects, or an item is out of stock. Check the item in Stream and your POS, then republish your menu. If it keeps happening, contact us.
#### Virnika says ordering is paused

Your location is paused in Stream. Resume it in Stream and Virnika starts taking orders again.
